BEIJING, April 15 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese legislator Thursday called for more efforts to enforce the Recycling Economy Promotion Law so as to advance the transformation of the economic development model in the country.

Chen Zhili, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, made the remarks during a study trip to a cement manufacturing factory in Beijing.

Chen also stressed the important role of scientific and technological progress and innovations in promoting the development of the recycling economy.

"Recycling economy" is a general term for the activities of reducing resource consumption and waste generation, reusing wastes, wholly or partly, in manufacturing, and recycling wastes into raw materials.

The Recycling Economy Promotion Law came into force at the start of 2009.
